I thought this movie was good

i liked this movie but then again i am a big kaiju fan i thought it was interesting anyways who made this (film company)

reply

I think it's made by Nikkatsu Studios. Some people think it's made by Daei studios. Anyway, I agree with you I think it's a pretty good movie.

Some scenes from this film were spoofed in the Red Dwarf episode "Meltdown" when Rimmer and Kryten arrive on Wax World.

I loved this movie when I was a kid. Just received a copy for Christmas and cannot believe the low rating on IMDB,

Cheers!

This movie was fantastic, it's the best japanese monster flick.

I agree, it is a good kaiju film.
Not as good as Ishiro Honda's early GOJIRA films, but I found GAPPA to be better and with more atmosphere than RODAN.

considering this movie was from 1967, right when Toho's giant monster movies were really starting to slip, this one isn't really that bad.

There is requisite city stomping, giant monsters, giant monster weapons, military vs. giant monsters, and a fairly engaging plot.

Granted the acting and special effects are pretty bad, downright pathetic in some areas, but a few of the effects are SURPRISINGLY GOOD! Watch closely, there's one or two shots that still hold up really well... especially during that early scene where the full-grown Gappas smash up the native village.

My biggest problem is that the film just gets formulaic and rather dull toward the end, especially to anyone who's seen GORGO.

Yeah, I enjoyed it, thought it was quite engaging and the humans didn't overcome the monster plot but at the same time weren't complete cardboard cutouts. The monsters were fun to look at and had a lot of expression, and there was much gratifying destruction. That's what it's all about!

I was really surprised with the very low rating this movie got. I enjoyed it. The effects are quite good. I like the humans and yes they didn't take away from the monsters. I got this movie in a 50 movie pack and it's one of the best.

sure the movie was a tad slow in getting going but if you like older monster movies like I do , then this one is a keeper,, yeah sure some of it might have been lost In translation due to dubbing, but I liked the movie for the most part.

Agreed. I'm no kaiju expert, but I thought this was one of the better ones. Right up there with Gamera Vs. Barugon, Mothra Vs. Godzilla, and Rodan.

Future posts such as these will affect you in the future!

I thought it compared quite well to the 'bigger' monster movies, i.e. Godzilla, Gamera, Mothra, Rodan. On the whole, the FX were better than Godzilla or Gamera were doing in the late 1960s.
