this what happens when ....

.... "comedic geniuses" start believing their own infallible legendary status and they are convinced that everyone will be in awe of even their lamest idea and no one has the courage to point out to them that their boat has sailed. A cinematic case of "The Emperor's New Clothes" as it were. This was a painfully unfunny movie, with wooden performances and dull dialog and not to mention the overblown music. It's entire premise was based on the actors running frantically in and out of doors, out of fear of being discovered. Every little bit of the comic "bits" was repeated & prolonged endlessly, to the point that I wanted to scream "enough already" at the screen. A painfully bad last gasp of Mr. Chaplin's legendary comedic genius.

I was at least glad to have been given the opportunity by Canada's Silver Screen Classics channel to see this film, which is very seldom broadcast nowadays, to complete my education on movies with & by Charles Chaplin.

I was also surprised to discover that the "love theme" was the music to Petula Clark's megahit of more or less the same era "Love, This Is My Song".
