Who was that guy they put in the box for 'complaining' and why?

I looked closely this time, but I couldn't figure out if it was because he was trying to change his work duty or because he collapsed from heat exhaustion, or if they were different guys or what.

The character was Gibson, aka "Mr. Alibi", one of the new meat along with Luke and the star of The Walton's. He was told on the way to their daily assignment that there was a special job just sweeping instead of backbreaking work of being in the ditch. He took it for one dollar and was trying to tell the boss and because of him trying to get another work assignment outside of being a trustee and pleading with the boss, he realized there was no such thing. He didn't collapse, that was Tramp.

He violated the rules by not only back talking a walking boss but trying to change a work assignment.
