Newman or McQueen? Who's cooler?

Who's cooler: Newman in "Cool Hand Luke," or McQueen in "The Great Escape"?

I don't have an answer. It's a tough question.

Well Steve McQueen was King Cool, period! But Paul Newman might be the man! I say Push!

I'm not big on The Great Escape. I think McQueen was coolest in either The Getaway or Bullitt. Newman on the other hand was never more cool than in Cool Hand Luke - although there is The Hustler, Butch & Sundance, The Sting and The Color of Money.

Yeah I think Newman takes it to be honest. But he had a longer career. Perhaps if McQueen was around as long, he would have had more of a chance.

Steve McQueen. Best scene--The Getaway when he's walking down the street with shotgun.

I would say McQueen overall is cooler but I prefer Paul Nemwan in Cool Hand Luke to any McQueen role. Great Escape is close though. Paul Newman is actually my FAVORITE actor so im not trying to say I think McQueen is better...hes not...just a bit "cooler"

well they're both in The Towering Inferno..
i haven't seen it (although i should soon) but do they have any scenes together?
if so, it might be easier to determine who's cooler.

We can't even discussed it - "Cool Hand Luke" extremely realistic human drama, while "Great Escape" just well made but nothing more than Americanism agitprop. If you want great movie about escape from prison see "Le trou" (1960).

The great escape is based on a true story, they escaped exactly as portrayed in the film, and many of those re-captured were executed much like in the film.

As for who's cooler, Newman is my choice, with McQueen not far behind him.

Yep, movie based on real story - but it's all about how you filmed it. Great Escape right from the start give us idea how good and brave American soldiers (English) and this escape is nothing more than just afternoon walk.

Absolutely impossible to answer!
