I read the cynical Mr Brown's decision at the end to take up the role of Major Jones, an experienced commando which he is not, & lead an impossible assault by the rag-tag mob of rebels (admittedly foisted on him by Henri Philipot but nonetheless he accepted) as a deliberately suicidal act on his part.
