Hideous late-'60s fashion

You know what I'm talking about. Good lord.

I haven't got the slightest idea what you are talking about?

What fashion you didn't like in this film?

reply

Essentially everything worn in the film, particularly by the male actors: silly blousy shirts, black skinny jeans, greasy long hair. The late '60s was in many ways the worst period in history for fashion. Daniel Pommereulle was particularly hard to look at. The collector character (is it Alain Jouffroy?) who buys the vase, however, was at times quite stylish insofar as he avoided the sartorial pitfalls of his younger fellow cast members.

reply

Rightly or not, I thought Daniel was meant to be a ridiculous character, which his clothes and hairstyle confirmed. And what exactly was wrong with Haydée’s bikinis?

reply

Danielle always seemed to be wrapped up in something, and came off rather feminine, which I think was Rohmer's way of telling us not to take him seriously, which was impossible, given the inane nonsense that came out of his mouth.
However, fashion wise I rather liked the styles, especially that cool suit Adrien wore.
Is fashion always your main criteria when critiquing a film?

Haw haw, the NY Times just listed La Collectionneuse as one of the most fashionable movies ever!

Other surprise picks included 'What's Love Got To Do With It?' and 'The Day Of The Condor'.
