VHS or DVD?

Is this film available on DVD or VHS? I haven't been able to find it. Might someone be able to point me in the right direction?

i've never been able to find it either. i think it was once released on vhs by new yorker video, but i've never seen it anywhere.

I got a copy off of ebay and was very disappointed. Apparently, and it might have been Godard's doing for all I know, the subtitles on the VHS tape I got did not match the words being spoken at all (I don't understand much French, but the words that came through did not sound like what was put on screen in letters). It was frustrating, cause I wanted to see what these people were talking about, and got a practical joke put on me all because I don't understand enough French to not have to read the subtitles. My advice is to consider this a lost Godard film - OR, if you do dig around long enough, perhaps you'll find the New Yorker copy of the film and not the one I got. Just beware of those types of VHS and DVDs...

the only vhs copy i've seen circulating is one with japanese subtitles. i phoned all around town to find a rental place that would have this film, but no luck. i wish someone would please release this film properly.

I saw a region 2 DVD of it tonight at a Japanese video shop in New York. They tested it for me and it only had Japanese and French subtitles.

A quick call to Kim's Video in Manhattan reveals they have a copy for rental on VHS.

La Chinoise is going to be released on DVD in the UK next month. So if you can play Region 2 PAL DVDs, that might be useful. There are quite a few coming out soon over here, actually. This site shows all those available in the UK now or in the next month, I think.

Thi film is now available from two different dvd companies:
1)Optimum Releasing of England ==>
http://www.optimumreleasing.com/dvd.php?id=157

2)AvChannel of Australia ==>
http://www.madman.com.au/actions/catalogue.do?releaseId=5025&method=view

The australian version has a full-length audio commentary by James Hewison, Director of the Melbourne International Film Festival. A useful review for this edition can be found in http://www.michaeldvd.com.au/Reviews/Reviews.asp?ID=6163

A review for Optimum : http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDReviews12/la_chinoise_.htm

After reading reviews for both versions, i bought the australian dvd and i'm very happy with it.

The Optimum version is very clean and well-subtitled, too. I just watched it a few days ago.

As far as I know there isn't a region 1 version. I know my library has a copy of it on DVD in the UK though.

Koch Lorber Films will be releasing a region 1 DVD of La Chinoise in May, with the feature and some extras.
