Vanessa + Franco

Here it is, 43 years after Camelot was released and I watched it in the balcony of one of the old time theaters that had the velvet curtains that would dramatically pull back when the film would begin. It was a special trip to that theater with my now-deceased mother, because we went to the matinee which we took the bus to into the "big city" of Harrisburg, PA -- just us girls! And now, once again, I'm here looking it up CAMELOT on the IMDB to go back in time to remember what sparked not only my life-long romance with that film but also the life-long love between Vanessa Redgrave and Franco Nero because tonight, my husband and I watched the fluffy little rom-com called "Letters to Juliet," starring Amanda Seyfriend and a couple of young hot guys and -- YES! Vanessa and Franco. And you could see that love just as clearly in "Juliet" as you could in "Camelot."

You know, I read the comments throughout the years about how the cast of CAMELOT - THE MOVIE couldn't sing, that it was all wrong in one way or another, blah blah blah, but it forever made an impression on a 14 year old girl way back then, and the timeless love story between Redgrave and Nero . . . well, it just doesn't get any better than that. Sorta makes you believe that there really is a place that WAS known . . . as . . . C A M E L O T!

Gee, I'm thinking back! About 46 or 47 years ago I saw "Camelot" on stage in Sydney. It was pure magic. And yes, they could sing...

I was fortunate to see it in a theater at age 15. My 10th grade English teacher took the entire class to see it. I've loved the film ever since and view it at least once every year. I'd been enamored of the tales of King Arthur, the Round Table and Camelot since early childhood and this film was a great way to segue into the more adult aspects of the story.

Who cares if they couldn't sing!! It's a form of expression. On Broadway, or live theater, yes, I want them to sing. (without microphones! THANK YOU very much). But for a movie? it's stylized, it's different.

Rex Harrison -- My Fair Lady. couldn't sing a note -- and it didn't detract one iota from his performance. So many others.

beautiful musical. all of it.

I think it's interesting how life imitated art. Guinevere and Lancelot had an affair in the story and apparently Vanessa had an affair with Franco.

...And they're still having an affair. They got married in 2006.

Loved Letters to Juliet in which film the old lovers were reunited. Vanessa lost both daughter Natasha Richardson, in 2009 and her sister Lynn and brother Corin in 2010. It is good that she and Franco Nero were together when she had to pass through so much sorrow.
