After watching it I thought it was going to be one of those foreign movies listed on the IMDb top 250, imagine my surprise when it only got a 5-something rating. I thought that visually the movie was spectacular and the plot was a very satisfying fairy tale. I loved it.

It's one of Sophia's most under-rated, least shown films. She was never more beautiful than in this terrific-looking film.

Watched this movie for the lst time on TCM. Didn't like it at all, for Sharif's character was horrific. Yet, it was worth it just to look upon the magnificence of Sophia Loren. She was the only redeeming value in this movie. A "3" rating for the movie. A solid "10" for Sophia. What a beauty she was back in the day, she and Claudia Cardinale.
shareI completely agree with you. I was horrified during the scene that he slapped her! It ruined the entire movie for me! It's amazing that there is so much praise for this movie when the Omar Sharif is so abusive! But it seems like we're in the minority here.
