Billy Jack / Rambo

How can anyone think this movie is worse than Billy Jack? I think there is a parallel between the Billy Jack series and the Rambo series. With both I had seen the sequel first as a kid and enjoyed them based on their action and, to some degree, on their "cheesey-ness". Later in life I was able to see the first films in each franchise and realized that they were actually well written films, not just something packaged to sell.

Funny you would mention Rambo because the deputy sheriff in Born Losers is deputy sheriff in Rambo. I see him in movies all the time.

Jack Starrett was sheriff Fred and Art Galt in First Blood. At first, when I was, watching Born Losers, I thought sheriff Fred was a young doctor Phil. Then I heard the voice and thought "holy 5hit, that's Galt."
First Blood even stole from Born Losers in that they had Starrett reprising the deputy beating up the prisoner, and doing so with billy club. Just odd how much older he looked after just 13 years.

In First Blood Part II they mention that Rambo is half Native American. I thought that was a similarity you would point out. Rambo and Billy Jack are also both Green Berets.

reply

Those are obvious, but you're right. I was just surprised that Galt was in Born Losers under the same roll. Born Losers was an originator though, and most won't know that unless they see the film.

reply

Yeah, I realized that was Galt and like you, I was also surprised how old he got.

He was also Gabby in Blazin' Saddles. Aint that a trip?
