Abrupt cut at very end of movie??

I haven't seen the movie in years but I remember that after the final shootout, and the police emerge from their positions, the film ends abruptly. From what I read from Leonard Maltin, there was a bit that was cut.

Does anyone know anything about this? What the footage was and if it ever was restored?

this is in line with its new wave origins/inspiration. there's nothing left to say and the film dies. it's called "bonnie & clyde," they die, the movie dies. i like it this way.

as it is, there's still about 30 seconds to take a breath before it's over... that's about 29 more than hitchcock gives you before the paramount logo suddenly appears at the conclusion of "vertigo."

"Rampart: Squad 51."
