Faye Dunaway drinking pop out of a bottle.

All I can say is I never thought watching her drink Dr. Pepper out of a bottle could be so erotic. She was hot in this movie.

And that was the point! There's a lot of phallic imagery in this movie that gives the film a sexual undertone amid Clyde's impotency.

reply

Exactly. In that same scene, Clyde has a match in his mouth which he wiggles excitedly between his teeth, and to impress her he shows her his gun, literally and figuratively.

Wow you guys took it to the next level. Which makes me want to watch it again with an open mind.

I think she's sexier in "Chinatown". Something about the red hair.

The way Bonnie strokes that gun was also very suggestive.

And he holds that pistol at crotch level. haha

One could also argue that the climax of the movie (the finale) was their ultimate climax (orgasm), especially since they look at each other lovingly one last time.

Ha! Never thought of it that way, but I can see what you mean. The jerking and flopping around was kinda sexy....especially at the end where Clyde rolled over and Bonnie was hanging out of the car...like the afterglow after sex where you are so relaxed you can't move.

I just thought of another example of sexual subtext, while viewing the trailer: When Bonnie poses for the famous photograph*, with a stogie in her mouth and a pistol at her hip -- both obvious phallic symbols. In fact, just before the photo, she takes Clyde's 'cigar' from his mouth and puts it in her own. Earlier in the film, she'd also stroked Clyde's 'gun' (which is hers now), as we discussed upthread. Apparently, since Clyde can't sexually satisfy her, this is the next best thing.

*The real Bonnie Parker really did pose like that, but it's interesting how the filmmakers were able to use that picture as sexual imagery within the film.

Well, there is also the ultimate sexual finale: when they actually have sex. About the infamous photo of Bonnie with the cigar, she said she regretted taking it because she really hated cigars.
