Casting of Britt Ekland

All the actors here, including Peter Sellers and certainly the Italian performers, were generally convincing as northern Spaniards, but Britt Ekland, though she looks gorgeous, was just too Scandinavian-looking, I felt, to play the Catalan mankiller Olympia Segura.

There are blue-eyed blondes in Spain for sure, but generally, they still have southern European or at least central European facial features, not absolutely Nordic like Ekland's. Of course, she still played the part of the courtesan very well.

I was also amused that the film was making the characters talk as if they had some lisping speech defect or something, when actually, in European Spanish, it's NOT a speech defect you hear, as the "ci" and "ce" and "z" is REALLY supposed to be pronounced like a "th" (Gometh, Barthelona, Garthia, Franthisco, etc.)! Still, it added some humor to many scenes.

This movie was OK, but somehow I felt there was something missing. Like it was rushed or something.

Still, kudos to everyone for not copping out with a happy ending and having Juan preserve his dignity.

I completely agree. I'm -as the song says- a girl from Barcelona and I don't certainly look like Britt Ekland! I thought she was supposed to be a foreigner living in the city but when I heard her name I couldn't stop laughing.
The same happened when I heard the other Catalan surnames in the film: Carbonell, Matabosch... but it was difficult for me to recognize them due to the actors bad pronunciation.
The worst was Seller's pronunciation of the word "Barcelona". It was painful! I guess he pretended to be an Andalusian where they have the sound 'z' instead of 's', but not in this word!
