Why on earth would anyone want to make an insect that could change itself into a woman?

Becuz of its vastly superior ability to pee and taste better than insect pus. Isn't it obvious?

yeah, why would they....guess I missed that bit of the plot. Maybe he was an avid collector and wanted a variety no one else had, imagine the look of jealousy on the other collectors faces when they saw it in the collection..
