An underrated movie

I love this film but it hasn't been on telly for decades.

It's free on Youtube.

It's a good film. But Peter Cushing said it was his worst film. He's wrong. Tender Dracula (1974) was.

reply

Hmm, I gotta put that on my watchlist.

It's a typical insect horror film. Good cast. I'm still baffled why Peter hated it.

I've seen "The Blood Beast Terror." I was talking about the even more notorious "Tender Dracula," which I never heard of until you mentioned it.

As to why Cushing and costar Robert Flemying hated working on "Blood Beast Terror," it was a low-rent production by Hammer's minor rival Tigon in which most of the cast complained about the small, cost-effective sets. The catering probably wasn't as good as Hammer. Who knows?

I thought the moth-creature looked effectively creepy. The flick wasn't that bad compared to other British creature features of the 60s. Cushing is always good and Wanda Ventham was certainly striking and charismatic. I just felt that what the professor was doing with his dubious experiments was too muddled, as detailed here: https://moviechat.org/tt0061411/The-Blood-Beast-Terror/5e7fb9535122f12d6502f2d5/Question-about-the-professors-dubious-Mothman-experiments.

Thanks for the info'.

Regarding Tender Dracula, I saw it years ago, and it's a badly put-together film, with an awful script and acting. Cushing is some kind of camp vampire. I was really bored with it. He must have been paid a shed-full of money to do it.

If Mr. Cushing said that about this one I would believe him. I saw it myself and wasn't impressed with this at all.
The ending was lame and the story and plot of the movie was weak. Special effects was shoddy but maybe that's all they were capable of at that time. The monster was shoddy looking or cheesy.
