Would you show this movie to anyone under the age of 15?

Hi!

Considering the fact that this film was made in 1967, and that by today's standards the sexual content of this film is fairly tame, would you show Luis Bunuel's "Belle de Jour" to any young member of your family aged 15 or under?

Or do you think this film is strictly aimed for mature, adult audiences (it's rated '18' in UK) who might take it in wrongly or may not understand it at all or anything else?

What did you think of the content of this film? And could young girls who don't know better actually be encouraged into doing prostitution in your opinion after they see this?

reply

Not a big deal about the sexual content, but it's a thing about the materials and the messages. Yes, there's some what I believe sadistic, masochistic, necrophilic and pedophilic, and some masturbations. However, nothing has pushed the envelope too far. Nothing was showed, except female rear nudity. So it's a lot better than today's R-rated or soft porn.

It's aimed for maturer audience. Movies like this need maturer people to appreciate it, especially the ones with some experiences. But if with the right explanations or brief introductions, it wouldn't be a big deal. Also, if showing young girls, it's necessary to have a bit discussion after watching the movie. But let them speak their minds first, before you comment and teach the right. I personally consider 16+ is better.

Just like violent materials in nowadays movies, WITH GUIDANCES, THE RIGHT EXPLANATIONS FROM ADULTS, movies are fine, and actually educational.

I don't intend to be offensive, but I have to defend my opinions.

Well, I hardly think that a 15 year old will get this film, let alone most 15 year olds don't have enough attention span to watch something like this. I guess it depends on the 15 year old.

sorry, I just had to.

Last film watched:

There's no frontal nudity, only one or two shots of a butt (through sheer dress). In that aspect, I'd say it's safe.

But I agree with this guy; I don't think many 15 year olds will truly appreciate this kind of filmmaking.

trust me, 15 year old boys would be very willing to watch young Catherine Deneuve and specially with the outfits she wore in Belle de Jour

I was fourteen when I first saw this film and I loved it. It encouraged me to pursue other works of Bunuel! I do believe that the material is very mature and should be shown with discretion to young adults, but those with an interest in film and maturity should be able to watch it! I agree that it depends on the kid!

Me? I'm a sort of scholar. And my major is you.

I seriously doubt anyone would be "encouraged into doing prostitution" after seeing this film. Unless, of course, they were particularly dim-witted. But, if that were the case, they wouldn't make it far enough into the film to be influenced.

I really don't think this film is appropriate for 15 year-olds, frankly. It's very adult-oriented in its subject matter. But, I too, agree with some of the other posters: I can't see most 15 year-olds today having the attention span to sit through this film. It's a brilliant film, by the way. And highly recommended for adults who don't suffer from ADD, a low IQ or are easily shocked or offended.

No.

I detest cheap sentiment.

I'm 15 and I just watched it with my brother. We both thought it was brilliant and were absolutely enthralled. But, most people my age would expect to see something much more graphic and be disappointed. Either that, or they would be bored by it. I was so happy I saw this. An absolute masterpiece!

"EEEVVVAHHHHH!!!!!"

reply

Actually, I wouldn't show it anyone under at least 18, maybe under 20. Ok, the sexuality is subtle, but still, this is a movie for adults. And for god's sake, why would a 15 year old person would watch a 40 year old surrealist movie?!

reply

14 year old yes. 13, no.

I watched King Arthur with all the frontal nudity in class when I was in high school when I was 15. And it was a private Catholic school. I don't think it's all that much of a big deal.

I am 15 years old and feel that it's fine, but seeing as how a lot people my age do not watch anything aside from Michael Bay I say don't even bother....

Ummm, Heck no!
