Needs a better remake. Who would you pick?

Just watched the original version again this morning. It's such a classic, that I think they can remake it again.

The 2000 remake with Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley was so forgettable, that I think it's time to go back to the source and do a proper British remake.

I have a couple of pairings in mind that I think would be great to reprise the roles of Stanley Moon and George Spiggot.

First is Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. These two already have amazing chemistry in "Sherlock". They work very very well together. Cumberbatch would make a perfect Devil and Freeman would be great as Stanley Moon. When I was watching the 1967 version this morning, I could see Benedict Cumberbatch saying Peter Cook's lines so perfectly. It's like they're Brothers in Spirit. Martin Freeman is very good at comedic acting and has proven himself in movies like "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and "The World'd End". I can easily see him playing the hapless Stanly Moon.

Speaking of "The World's End", the next pairing would be Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Again, two guys with great chemistry who go so well together. What's a little different about these two is that I can see either one of them playing the other role. Simon Pegg would be great as either the Devil or Stanly Moon. Pegg can do sinister as well as hapless. I think Nick Frost can do either role as well. Frost's version of George Spiggott would be a little different since Peter Cook was so tall and thin while Frost is...not. However, I think Frost can do a pretty good Devil. A little change of pace. In the end, I think it would be a coin-toss to determine who gets which role. Either way it would be amazing.

Don't really care who gets to play Stanley Moon's love interest. I think we should keep it British though. Maybe somebody like Rosamund Pike or Kate Winslet.

In any regards, if somebody did a British Remake and chose either one of the above pairings, it would be a slice of fried gold.

I agree with practically everything you say, except Winslet would be too old. Rosamund Pike, though, very good choice.
