Anyone could help finding a VHS copy ?

I've been trying a long time to find a VHS copy of this movie, without success.Since my hearing english is not good enough, it would be helpful either the eventual tape were Closed Captioned,or had english subtitles.Could anyone help me in finding a VHS copy or a less probable DVD version?By the way, I'm Edson from Brazil, South American. Thanks a lot.

To find an English subtitled version will be very hard indeed. There are Japanese and an Russian versions on DVD -- in French without English subtitles.

There are VHS versions around in Europe, you can find German or French VHS versions regularly on Ebay.

Apart from that nothing, unfortunately.

PS: I have the Russian DVD version, which is very good in quality!

Hi kefq30,
Thanks for your message.I'll try to find at ebay, or in the rare films websites(where prices are always proibitive), once I coudn't find at Amazon.com.The point is, I need the subtitles in English, Portugues or Spanish.
Thanks a lot.

Olá Sonja 6. Realmente como você falou: vale pela música, além é lógico, de poder relembrar com saudades, de um clássico da juventude dos anos 60.Muito agradecido pela dica, e um forte abraço.

A (flat) English subtitled VHS is available from Facets in Chicago for about $ 35 US (that's facets.org not "facets.com.") A Japanese DVD also shows up on e-Bay frequently. I personally like the US dubbed version, which is not available at the moment. I bid about $ 600 for a 16mm print of this version on e-Bay a few years back, but someone outbid me, so maybe I'm not the only fan of the dubbed version. A great film!

You can order a Russian PAL Region "0" DVD here http://www.russiandvd.com/store/product.asp?sku=29428&genreid=&genresubid=

I own this DVD, great quality, very good transfer, but Unfortunately only French, not subtitles.

Does the Japanese edition have English subtitles? I've checked amazon.jp on that and it appeared that it does *not* have English subtitles. But you can't never be sure with this automated translation tools (I used google to let amazon.jp translate into English...), are you? ;)

I haven't seen the Japanese DVD. But my understanding is that it does not have English subtitles. It would be nice if the rights owners would put it out on region 1 DVD. The NY Times review when the film was released said it was a great film, but wasn't getting the attention it deserved because it was shown in the states in a dubbed version. Of course, I liked the dubbed version (as did the Times reviewer). The original promoters appeared to aim it at the action film crowd instead of the art house market. Now they're leaving more cash on the table by not making it readily available on DVD. (If a region 1 DVD does come out, I'd like the English dubbed version as an option in addition to French with or without subtitles).

It seems the rights owner consider the commercial potential of this movie relatively low. All editions available are limited to an audience capable of French. There are dubbed versions existing in several European languages (Italian, Spanish, German), there were shown in cinema when it was released first time. Unfortunately, no "studio" takes on the effort on putting all that on DVD.

I still like the Russian DVD edition, it's also not too expensive. You just have to deal with the fact that it's French only, as said before.

We have the 35mm projection print with the HUNGARIAN subtitles burnt-in. Would that help? Looks pretty faded, however, and it is a positive print.

Is a US DVD out yet, you think? Amazon only has the film's soundtrack!

I guess one can order this re-mastered DVD with the 56 minutes of Special Features from amazon.fr, but then it will be Region 2 and no English soundtrack. But maybe English SUBTITLES?

Thanks!
