In the 60's and previous decades, "green" was always seen as slimey and unearthly. "little green men" were evil aliens from Mars and I guess this inspired the villians in this series.

Ah… green is a classic color of villainy in the comic book world. Nothing more, nothing less. Though, in the case of the Radiation Specialist, that was rather curious… perhaps overexposure…

Actually, green is the complimentary color to Spider-man's red and blue. It is the same reason kryptonite is green, to superman's red and blue.
