Are the original mach gogo japanese cartoons available somewhere on dvd? Im curious to see what the orignal looked like with all the violence that i keep hearing was in the first one. If anyone knows where to get this please let me know, r maybe there is a site were i can watch em online.
shareThey are available on DVD in Japan, and can be ordered through Amazon Japan. Just so you'll know, the amount violence in the original has been exaggerated by people here who have never seen the series. Speed Racer actually trimmed out very little of the series, and simply rewrote things to claim that some people who died in the original were just injured instead. So, if you buy the Japanese series expecting to see extreme violence that you never saw in Speed Racer, you'll be sorely disappointed.

And they only do that a few times, very little was cut from Speed Racer.
Like in the episode "The Fire Race", everybody in the race except Speed and Racer X dies a fiery death.

shareNo thats what happens in the American version, I'm trying to say very little was cut from the Japanese version. You see the main villain's face get burned by boiling hot tar, then he falls into the tar and burns to death. Nothing is hidden or cut, its all there.
shareIf you can find the SPEED RACER THE MOVIE, it has more violence than the same episodes on the new DVDs.
shareWell, there's the episode where Speed rapes Trixie, Spritle gets high and shoots chim-chim, and the whole thing gives Pops and Mom a heart attack and they die, taken then by Racer X, who proceeds to mutilate their corpses.

shareThat's because they used the original Japanese film master for The Mammoth Car. Then the original American dubbing was laid on to it. That is why it has a few extra bits and much better sound and picture quality. Wish they would do this for every episode and just do a good release of both versions! The Japanese version is about $400 on amazon japan. (and on 9 DVDs with no time compression!!) And to top it all off the Speed Racer DVDs are sourced from a Beta master from the early 90's.
