Killed by the Nixon administration on account of the show's relentless criticism of American foreign policy and political leaders. The show got the axe from William Paley, Nixon's friend, despite its popularity. The last straw came in April 1969 when a tape of a program containing an appearance by Benjamin Spock arrived too late at CBS HQ for network editing.

I'm a Brit and never saw this show when it was aired. My partner is American, and mentioned them after I read a little bit about them in The Glass Teat by Harlan Ellison. I managed to find season 3 (including the unaired episode) and was blown away.

These guys really pushed the boat out in the 60's and must be the precursors of shows such as Saturday Night Live.

Having watched the Documentary Smothered too, I was under the assumption that the tape for the unaired version wasn't delivered on time, and thus wasn't show and the brothers were sacked.

But even today they stand up....
