Do you agree with the show...

... being on this list?

I only remember the premise but when comparing it to the ones that 'made it' I'd say it's too bad it didn't last longer.

RottenTomatoes thought highly of the concept but did not think the scripts were up to snuff

The Second Hundred Years might be the most high-concept show ever to make it on the air. Unfortunately, the laughs were rather low — and after viewers’ curiosity faded, so did the ratings.

It would be dumb to put it on a list of "Can't believe it ever got made" ... in fact any such list is pretty dumb. Over the decades the networks have tried out a LOT of things in an attempt to break the mold of cop, detective, lawyer, doctor, family comedy.

Gilligan's Island was ground-breaking in that it was a comedy where the hero was completely inept and clueless, it had a diverse mix of characters, and there were no kids ... yet it was clearly a show to appeal to kids.

In the 60s, many shows tried to find their way to a similar formula, including The Second Hundred Years. There were many such gimmicks. Shows like Bewitched and I Dream of Genie were fantastically successful with their gimmicks. More moderately successful were shows like The Munsters and The Adamms Family. Shows like The Second Hundred Years and It's About Time didn't catch on, but we should give them credit for going out on that limb and trying to be different.

We rarely get really different comedies any more. Where the 60s and 70s were full of very successful sitcoms, since the late 80s (or so) there have been fewer really successful sitcoms in all of 30 years than you used to find every season.
