Chauvinism in 'Orion': anti-female of typical for its time?

I wonder why we all are so absurbed only by the tricks and techiques of the series. I loved it, too (The iron! The dance! The old-fashioned tricks!) - but just before I watched the entire series of the DVD-box.

What a shock to consider that the whole series is firmly chauvinistic and sometimes even rassistic. Nearly all dialogs stick with Old men´s humor of the lowest level possible.
Woman are firmly shown as persons who ask the stupid questions. When they give orders they are laughed about and ignored competely. When McLane shouts on the woman´s planet "stop that amazone circus!" and "I want to meet the boss!" it can be seen as funny, but not in the whole context. Just pick out the scene at Star casino, where the men laugh tears imagining all these woman on one planet! While Tamara sits there silently.
And it seems that the actors themselves are enjoying and accepting all this. No sign of subtle acting which would make the dialogs more bearable. It´s all exaggerating, shouting and foolishing around. Simple messages, simple behaviour.

I wonder whether this was typical for the German television in the late 60ies.
If the social roles as shown in "Orion" were seen as normal, we have indeed made a big step in woman´s rights! The series got critics for "fascistic" parts, but was there ever a discussion of the feministic side? If someone knows more, please react.

You are forgetting General Lydia van Dyke. Nearly every one had a high respect for her and her opinions, she even had command of her own ship.

How can it be chauvinistic if there are no more countries?

About sexism, I can't really say. The women are in positions of power (command, security, communications). The men are usually seen as hotheads who can rarely stop yelling long enough to get anything done. Then again, feminists do so like to cherry pick to make themselves seem oppressed.
