WHO COULD PLAY MANNIX ON THE BIG SCREEN?

If "Mannix" was made into a movie, who could you see in the lead role?
I could think if any 3 as a choice it'd be.
George
Brad
Will

Will? Which one?

Clooney is the only one that could pull it off. It would make for a good tv show. Either remake it and have him as Desert Storm Vet.

I think the actor that plays Don Flack on CSI NY would make a great new MAnnix. Have Kelsey Grammer as one of the Cops and its made in the shade.

I loved Mannix reruns as a child. I will eventually get the set for X-mas.

Retsevlis.

Mannix was a "Real Man" not some pretty boy actor. He was educated, knew how to speak to both men and women and could persuade and seduce both. There were many a time when he made his enemy into his ally, that is a hard trick to pull off just on paper. Maybe....... Verne Troyer?

No one else should play Mannix because Mike Connors IS Mannix. No reboots. There is a reason why they used the word "IS" in the old TV shows. The role should end with that actor.

Now they can make a new movie or TV show inspired by Mannix using a similar formula but don't call it Mannix. I believe this is why many reboots of old shows fall short of expectations. Just my opinion.

Quoting Nic hse, "Now they can make a new movie or TV show inspired by Mannix using a similar formula but don't call it Mannix. I believe this is why many reboots of old shows fall short of expectations. Just my opinion."

I think the reason reboots fail is that they ignore the show's canon and decide to rewrite history. Look at these examples:

Wild Wild West- James West is now black
Mod Squad- Captain Greer is killed
Mission Impossible- Jim Phelps is the baddie
Star Trek- Spock is in the Academy at the same time as Kirk, Kirk is on the Enterprise while Pike is still Captain, Chekov is part of the original crew.

With the right producers (who would follow the show's canon), I think Mannix could be either a successful movie or series of two hour movies. It would damn sure be better that most of the junk that's on TV today.

I would like Patrick Dempsey

How about Liev Schrieber?

Did I spell that right?

reply

Yes, Liev Schrieber is perfect for the role. He had a great little four-episode arc on C.S.I.: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION playing a C.S.I. named Keppler. The producers later regretted killing off his character, as they realized he'd have made a perfect permanent addition to the team after William Petersen left the show.

Schrieber could actually pull off Joe Mannix's Armenian background, as he's got the necessary ethnic cred. (If there's any doubt of that, check out the great feature he directed, EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINATED, set in the wilds of modern Europe.)

I also agree with an earler post which mentioned Eddie Cahill (who plays Flack on C.S.I.: NEW YORK) for the role of Joe Mannix. Not as great as Schreiber, but he could certainly make it work.

Patrick Dempsey is leaving Grey's Anatomy after this season. He's perfect for Mannix.

Good advice

One of the central things about Mannix was his essential decency and moral compass. So count Clooney out- he made fun of Charlton Heston's alzheimers disease and then refused to apologize. So, he lacks the essential decency part.

Brad Pitt, interesting choice. The physicality he portrays reminds me of Mannix somewhat.

Will- again, which Will? Will Smith- he brings a lot to the table, but I always think of him as an essentially funny actor. Wild Wild West underwhelmed me. In spite of the talents he has I can't see him as Mannix.

This question underlines how dangerous it is to reprise a role that is so closely identified with one actor/actress. Of the three Pitt would be my choice.

Forget it!
