Who should play Ironside in the NBC remake?

I think that real life wheelchair user Mitch Longley (Judging Amy, Las Vegas) should at least be considered for the role.

Thoughts?

Nobody! There is only one Robert T. Ironside: Raymond Burr.

The show was terrific and still is. Remakes often don't work so why even bother trying that with Ironside? It was great in its era but it wouldn't work the same nowadays. I love the show, always have and always will: it is second to none. I truly hope that there will never be a remake.

Its going to be Blair Underwood. If they did want to with someone who sort of looks Like Raymond Burr. I would have picked Jeffery Dean Morgan from The Loosers and The Watchman movies. As he is a dead ringer for a young Raymond Burr or Comic Brad Garret from Everybody Loves Raymond.

reply

Just read in indiewire.com that NBC has picked that up!!!

reply

No! Underwood is too athletic to play that guy.

Athleticism has nothing to do with it. According to the story (the original Ironside, at least), Ironside was an active, ambulatory man. He was paralyzed by a bullet to his spine. That can just as easily happen to an "athletic" man. After all, look at Christopher Reeve.

reply

I saw the original pilot.
Yes, he was ambulatory. Burr was also pretty heavy by then.
I'd simply prefer to see Underwood play more 'ambulatory' & dashing roles.

Charles Dutton would ROCK the part, though!

I guess being black myself I should be happy to read Blair Underwood has been chosen for the part of Ironside, but the idea of a wheelchair-bound, black chief of detectives sounds a little too far-fetched for me! Guess I'll have to wait and see. Definitely won't be "your father's" Ironside.

reply

mine would be William Katt, the son Of Barbara Hale who played Della Street from Perry Mason

reply

Monte Markham of course. He already has practice at playing Raymond Burr. And even though he failed at it, he should get a 2nd chance so he can fail again.

reply

Just show the reruns. They hold up very well.

You can call me '.

The problem with Monte is that Rudy Wells would have the damage from the bullet fixed in a day or two and he'd be back running 60mph within a week.

starting to see the promos NBC is putting out for the new Ironside, be interesting to know if it is filmed in SF and who Ironside's side kicks will be, i usually skip any kind of re-make of a classic tv show, but i'll give this one a one or two episode try.

Either English actor Danny Dyer or Michael Cera for me.

Brad Garrett gets my vote!!!
