Ed and Eve Romance

Would you have liked to have see a romantic relationship devolope between Ed and Eve? There was a always a very subtle undercurrent of flirtation between the two of them. But I guess I understand why the show never went there-- the dynamics of the show might have changed too much. The story probably benefited from all of them just being very good friends, almost family to each other.

Also, the Chief was very no-
nonsense, I don't know that he
would have taken too kindly to
romance in the workplace.

I, personally, love the show as it was. I think the flirtation was okay, but I'm glad the show didn't take it too far. What I'v always loved most about the show is the warm and friendly dynamic between the characters. It just all really worked, especially the first four seasons with Eve. It was a really great show. I had recently seen an episode where the two were a little flirty, so that's what brought this subject on.

Anyway, what do you all think? Would you have liked to see a romance between the two? Or was the story better left as is?

I think they did the right thing .A romance between any of the regulars would have taken away from the format of the show. The episodes were all stand alones and a romance would entail continuity. You are right though -there did seem to be some flirtation at times. They all had very good chemistry.
I too enjoyed the family dynamics of the show. How long have you watched?
This site has some interesting information about the show http://www.revealshot.com/tag/raymond-burr/

I've been watching since METV started airing reruns a few years back, although they've since stopped, unfortunately. I agree with you that any romantic interaction between any of the regulars would have taken away from the format of the show.

It's funny, this discussion reminds me of something I read a while back about the show on the
internet. Somebody commented that they had read an interview somewhere with with Barbara
Anderson, who played Eve, and in
the interview she stated that she
felt her character lacked
dimension, and in order to give her
character more depth, she spent a
whole season subtly making eyes at
Mark. She didn't specify which
season, but I'd really like to
know, because I never noticed it. Now, I don't think that's something the show would have touched on at that time, any flirtation between Mark and Eve, though it might have been interesting. At that time on tv, it would have been considered too risky. However, they did give Mark at least two different episodes that kind of touched on possible interracial romance for him. But again, nothing much ever really came of it. It just wasn't being done on television at the time.

Thanks for the link! It looks very interesting! I love this show and I love reading about it!

I read that somewhere too-I'm not sure where.I never saw any hint of it either-In a few episodes it's indicated Mark and Eve had a close friendship but nothing beyond that.I think with civil rights in it's infancy the network would never allow anything more than that.
I liked Eve's character much more than Fran's -I think the show went downhill after that but that's just my opinion-some people I've talked to loved Fran.

I agree 100% with you about Eve being the better character! I'll still watch the later seasons on occasion, just because I still love love the Chief, Mark and Ed so much, but Fran just didn't seem to click with the Guys the way Eve did. Eve far and away had much better chemistry with the other characters. You could tell she loved them and they loved her. There was just an overall cozier and friendlier feeling between the four original characters.

I agree with you on The Chief Ed and Mark.I loved Raymond Burr and thought he was perfect for the part.Ed Mark and Eve seemed comfortable with each other.I imagine it was hard for Fran -Eliizabeth Bauer to come in to an established cast.

It must be difficult to come in so late to a cast who already had so much good chemistry and replacing such a good character. Frab was a very different character from Eves, so I'll give the show that. They didn't try to bring in an Eve knockoff, which would have made things much worse. But I just prefer everything overall about the first half of the shows run. But hey, like you said, a lot of people actually like and prefer Fran, so it's all a matter of opinion.
