Age Gap between John Cannon and 2nd Wife Victoria?

I heard that it was an age gap of 30 years. First, I'm surprised that such a marriage union was meant with so little controversy(I've never had anything against it). I'm glad they were portrayed as that not being a part of their earlier challenges of making the marriage work. They are one of my favorite television couples to watch. A good show that I wish had gone on longer, especially so that Mark Slade could have returned some playing Blue. After he left the show was still good but he was so missed.

I saw this show for the first time a few years ago. I had seen pictures of the cast before and I'd always assumed that Victoria was John's daughter.

But after seeing some episodes, they did seem to me like a good couple. They had chemistry.

Yes, and very good chemistry. I just saw on another website that John was supposed to be 55 years old and Victoria was 29 so that is an age gap of 26 years, but still well portrayed.

That kind of age gap was common in the 19th century American West. I've read historical accounts of middle aged men taking wives in their mid-teens. One American rancher or landowner's diary entry about his marriage to a 15 year old daughter of a Hispanic landowner is all about him boasting that he can "still cut so spicy a mustard".

Why would the marriage be controversial? Back in the dark days prior to the 2020's adults were allowed to marry regardless of age and race (gender is another story). Making "age gap" an issue oppressive, not progressive.
