Did Victoria marry John for his money?

She was quite a lot younger than John and from a poor Mexican family and John was a well off landowner.

Uh....WHAT? Are you sure you're watching The High Chaparral?

Try watching the first two episodes again.

John is land poor - everything he and his family had they put into buying that land.

Victoria's father is richer than rich.

Oh, I just figured something out...you're what's called a troll, right? And I just fed you.

Shame on me. Won't happen again.

reply

No need to be rude I was just making an observation as I have never seen the first episodes and have not seen this programme previously at all and only recently watched a few episodes on one of those obscure satellite channels.

Her motive for marrying John was out of love and a sense of adventure, while his motive for marrying Victoria at first was to keep the peace between the two families.

No blah, blah, blah!

Thanks for the info.

Victoria had no say in the decision. That is a point that Don Sebastian made. She was past marriage age in Mexico and rejected all suitors her father set up for her. Of course, despite being from an artsypcratoc family,?she proved herself right from the very beginning much tougher then her brother or Blue, That was something that JohnCannonres a very hard Cannon really liked about her.

Just watched Episode 3 Season 1. Victoria was ordered to go home by her father Don Sebastian and she refused. She wants the life of adventure and building an empire that John Cannon can bring her. She told her father she never would have agreed to the Arrangement that her father and Cannon made if that is not the life she wanted. A big part was reading the diary of the former Mrs. Cannon and she was the total opposite of Victoria ( not liking the hard life that Cannon chose). It was interesting that Cannon's wife talked about the lack of affection that he showed towards the family despite the fact he loved her. That knowledge plus Cannon saving her when she was on fire, and letting her know she was wanted and appreciated made the decision ( and Cannon let her know it was her decision) made it easy.

reply

Began as an arranged marriage as Don Sebastian pushed it in the beginning out of fear that Victoria would never be married. You will see it once you watch the first 2 episodes.

Victoria was from a wealthy landowning family. Her marriage to John Cannon was an arranged one between John and Don Sebastian. John wanted to secure his southern border against Mexican raiders and also have backup against Apaches and outlaws and Don Sebastian wanted a husband for Victoria, who was a firebrand. The marriage started out as a business arrangement, but became a genuine one over time.

Why didn't she marry Buck? He was younger and more handsome, but had a very peculiar accent... Maybe it was Love?
p.s. I haven't seen first season yet and I knew that She came from the Wealthy family not John. I think I looked over the synopsis or something.
This show was on when I was very young, but I guess we watched something else. Back then NOBODY had more than 1 TV and you only got 5 or 6 channels. Except for the Big 3 it was all reruns on UHF channels.

....................
I have nothing to say... I've been such an arse already.

reply

Buck would probably be a terrible husband. Just look at the guy.

reply

❤️️
I agree. While he was a nice guy who usually meant well, Buck was a bit rough around the edges. Besides, he wasn't the one who was dealing with Don Sebastien anyway. John Cannon, the big ranch owner was.

reply

I didnt think so.
