I love this show

I've been watching it on and off for the last ten or more years. It comes on very late on Saturday nights and I watch an episode every few months or so. I've always wondered if they would all ever meet up and I just happened to be watching tonight where Jim meets his son Jeff for the first time. This is such a cool show and I'm not even into Westerns.

P.S. I also like "Branded" with Chuck Connors.

You must live in Dallas where both shows were shown back to back on a local channel.

naileddotnet: You commented on the poor transfers on the DVDs. The Wikepedia article on this series not only says that, but also claims that they are from the edited-for-syndication copies. I have never heard of an over-the-counter DVD release of a TV series using such. Is this true?

reply

I purchased both seasons of "Branded" and "The Guns Of Will Sonnett" last year. Both series appear on these DVDs from 16mm prints, edited to 21 or 22 minutes per episode, and wear the King syndication label at the end credits, though the DVD packaging wears the Timeless DVD label. Picture sharpness varies from episode to episode, though the sound is clear on all but one "Branded". Some of the black and white "Branded" episodes look washed-out; the color on the remaining "Branded" and all the "Guns Of Will Sonnett" shows vary from faded and grainy, to fair, at best.

I just checked the Critic's Choice Video site (ccvideo.com), where their catalog numbers begin with a three-letter abbreviation for the label that's responsible, and this title's begins with "MDY." So maybe that version isn't cut.

I too love this show, I grew up watching re-runs and would like very much to find this on DVD soon. 27 episodes should no be hard to release, come on people get this on DVD!

reply

I haven't seen the show in years but would like to get it on DVD. It is one of the few shows that got to end the series with a final episode that ties all the loose ends together. They all meet in a town where jim is a Marshall and they have to help him fight some gunslingers. At the end of the episode the Jeff and Will are deputies working with Jim. it was a great show believe they really don't make them like that anymore. No braggin' just fact.

Yep used to like to watch 'Branded' as well. Wish 'Guns' was shown locally.

I grew up around Cowboy Country. Many like westerns down here. I think the last time I saw it was around 6-6:30 AM maybe a Saturday, years ago. I was just getting off work and someone had it on. I took a double take. I only got to see the ending. I used to watch it when it was a regular series. I wish I could see it now.

There's a new quasi network called Memorable Television (or MeTV) in Tucson it's on the alternate KOLD ch 87 (but it's also national from what I understand). And they air the show every Saturday at 12:30pm.
My problem/question is this...I remember at the end of each episode, Will said a prayer,...but in the ep I just watched, "The Man Who Killed Jim Sonnet" there wasn't one, the show ended a few minutes early and Gunsmoke came on early...now since we just started getting the thing and I this is the first ep I've seen in years, I gotta ask/wonder...did they edit the prayer out because,..well..it was a prayer...or did the network hose up and end the ep too soon?

Here's the closing prayer for "The Man Who Killed James Sonnett" 3/21/69:

"Dear Lord, it's fine to see a play,
for folks to laugh or cry.
To see theirselves and learn a bit.
But no one learns from a lie."
