DVD?

Why isn't this version on DVD? This version is the one I watched as a kid, and I have fond memories of it.

"War is not healthy for children and other living things."

I know... This is my favorite super hero cartoon from when I was a kid. Superfriends being a close second.

I am kind of disappointed that the new movie that is coming up features a very young group, when the real Reed Richards was in his forties, and Sue was already married to him.

reply

Sorry, no. In Fantastic Four #1, Sue was just Reed's fiancée and he had no silver hair. The movie is accurate on that respect, if their 'ultimates' version of doctor doom is rather sacrilegous.

I was watching Attack of the Show on G4tv and they were talking about fantastic four. The guy showed a dvd that he got off ebay for about $20 that I think was the complete series of the 60's fantastic four. I myself was looking for the same thing so i hope this helps.

reply

I agree. This animated version of the Fantastic Four was the one that I grew up with. I remember back in the 60's watching this cartoon every Saturday morning; and it was great! I too wish that the recent movie version would have been more like the 60's TV cartoon series.

Too bad this cartoon doesn't seem like it will be released anytime soon. I'm guessing there must be some rights issues, similar to the Batman 60s tv show where Fox and WB both have partial ownership and won't come to an agreement.

If they ever get around to releasing this they should release it along with the other F4 related HB cartoon The Thing, even though it sucked.

This toon is one of the better Marvel toons, it ought to be released.

...and when you retire: your very own jukebox!

i would buy these on dvd these were good cartoons unlike the 70s version with that stupid robot

reply

THE ROBOT WAS CORNY.HOW COULD YOU REPLACE THE HUMAN TORCH WITH THAT?

reply

DON'T GET ME WRONG,I WOULD LOVE TO GET THAT ONE TOO,BUT I ENJOYED THIS ONE WAY MORE.I WATCHED IT ALL THE WAY THRU TWICE ALREADY.

Hanna-Barbera released all there other shows to DVD why Not the Fantastic Four?

The FF was a 'work for hire' project by H-B, and as such isn't owned by them (Disney owns it now, with nominal ownership by Turner Television). The rights would have to be sorted out first before a DVD would be released.

reply

The Fantastic 4 are MARVEL characters.

This 1967 cartoon was done by Hanna-Barberra which is owned by TimeWarners.

reply

Marvel Studios (which is a division of Disney) owns the property-that's what I meant.

And yeah, you were right, but H-B is now Warner Bros. Animation (with distribution by Warner Bros. Television Distribution.) H-B is little more than a name and an imprint of Warner Bros. Animation.
