Original source of "The Christmas Story"

This one episode "The Christmas Story" I remember seeing and now I have found that it was remade from the previous Dragnet. However I have always been lead to believe that these were based on true stories. Now this is one that I am trying to find out more on, because I would like to read it myself, and then I remember my mother saying it actually happened in our hometown. If anyone knows how I can contact the production company to ask them it would be appreciated.
