I always knew that whenever hippies were featured in an episode, there was usually a stern lecture to be forthcoming. Some of Friday's soliloquies were delivered like machine gun bullets--fast and unrelenting. But one must appreciate the context of the late 1960s and early 1970s with the Vietnam war protests, the number of kids doing drugs like LSD, events like Woodstock, campus unrest, and other "hippie involved (but not exclusively!)" events. That must seem like planet Mars to today's Millennials who (many, if not most) cannot fully appreciate the nation's angst at that time. Dragnet was a vehicle to say to the masses, "the world is not quite as crazy as you think because Friday and Gannon are looking out for you."

Remember in "the old days" when "older people" saw a girl in a mini skirt or a teenage boy with long hair and thought "the world was going to hell" ?
Well they should be happy to be dead (by now) because could you imagine their reaction to (among other things) the "transgender" thing going on today ?

I LOVE the anti-hippie, anti-drug episodes. Beware the infamous L.S.D., it will make you paint your face blue and yellow and bury your head it the ground. Beware the heathen killer weed marijuana, it will cause you to leave your baby to drown in the bath tub while you are stoned out of your mind. BEWARE! BEWARE! BEWARE!
