Forgot about Helen Reddy
Helen Reddy was on METV last night. It is crazy that she was SO popular back in the day. What I mean is that I NEVER think about her nowadays. When she was on last night it brought back memories.

shareI know. The thing with Helen Reddy is that her hit singles were dated within a year or two after their release, never to get airplay again. But what a great voice she had!
shareHow were they dated within a year? I was listening then, and once a song had it's time on the top 40, there was no reason to hear them again. She sang them on later tv shows

Helens' less "pop" songs are timeless; she remade some of the classic ones, which may not be as well-known to listeners.
shareAnd she had her own variety show. It lasted only one season, though.
I told you a million times not to talk to me when I'm doing my lashes!
Her popularity was clearly 'manufactured' in some aspect, whether she was a good singer (which I think she was and is) or not.
The Airport '75 appearance shows that, especially in that she did relatively little on the movie but sing, which I guess is what she was known for. Did she have a Love Boat or Fantasy Island appearance afterward?
Yep, just checked. She had both.

Manufactured? You mean Jeff Wald, her super agent husband from William Morris? Yeah, that would help
I just watched the one with Helen Reddy! Her and Carol Burnett were singing a song while Helen was holding up those cards, trying to speak with an Australian accent.

She continued to have hits after the mid 70's with one of my favorites (and a classic) "You're My World", 78'

I love the song. Her live TV glitch, which I saw when it aired, is on youtube. You have to look for the right version; one version has been corrected. The real version has her starting too soon because she could not see the orchestra; she says "I'm sorry" to the audience ,then continues.

It was probably the same one Dionne Warwick hosted, Solid Gold, but that was the 80's. When I saw her at the South Shore Music Circus (boston) in 79', a mistake happened during the concert; she was mad.
