Tim Conway's Old Man Character

In my twenties when I first saw it. Funny then.

Now that I've made it to my 60s and find myself actually walking like that sometimes it's lost a little of its humor. I don't talk like that, yet, but who knows what the future holds.

Anybody else find themselves being the "Old Man" but not on purpose??

During the show's original run, my mother, then in her forties, found the old man hilarious. I never did, even then, and I would say things like, "How can you laugh at that? What if you're like that someday?"

Now my mother is in her eighties and walks a lot slower. The reruns on ME-TV are
being shown on weeknights. Whenever that old man character shows up, she laughs even harder (I still don't find him funny, though). I think she's laughing with him, not at him, now.

I'm not crying, you fool, I'm laughing!

Hewwo.

His slow motion pratfalls were amazing.

Conway seems to have forgotten how to do that character. He does it on MeTV promos now and then, but he never affects that speech impediment where certain words seem to get stuck in his throat, and finally come out funny.

Well I'm going to take a leap here and say I NEVER found that character funny. I actually came here to post about another Conway thread, and saw this one, and felt I wanted to just share my opinion.

When I was a kid and used to watch Carol, I hated it when the old man sketch came on. I just found it incredibly boring.

Then just about 10 years ago, I started working at a place where my boss's father, who was in his 90s and suffering from dementia and bowel incontinence, would be roaming around the place. He used to own the place and was in a nursing home but insisted on spending half a day where I worked. It was an impossible situation as we had clients coming in and the poor old guy just shouldn't have been there.

The workers and I would look for Tim Conway's sketches at that time because to our warped minds it was comic relief for what we were going through. Really, it wasn't very nice, I realize that now.

I also realize what a couple of posters here are saying. If we keep breathing, we all will get there eventually. :)

I was in my late teens and early 20's when TCBS was on and I just never thought the old man sketch was funny. Still don't

I hate to say it, but I also hated that character. I found it annoying and boring.

Then all of you who've commented negatively on this thread must be thrilled that the technology has always existed for you to CHANGE THE CHANNEL, IF YOU WEREN'T ENJOYING WHAT YOU WERE WATCHING......even when it meant having to get off your arses and walk across the room to do so📺

Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought an idiot - than to open it and remove all doubt!

I was never a fan of this character. The only time I found him funny was when he cracked Korman up, especially in the firefighter sketch.
