Why is Dick Gregory

missing from the cast list?

reply

Someone apparently ommitted it from the IMDB cast list, but he is listed in the actual credits at the end of the film.

I was thinking of fixing this myself but came upon the question who is Dick Gregory? IMDB only lists one and he is black. There are several Richard Gregory's but no way of knowing which is the right one. I assume it is Richard L Gregory, based on age and birthplace but since I don't know for sure I can't petition to fix it.

Ironically every online resource seems to state that the black Dick Gregory is the man in this movie.

I'd also love to know how imdb has the nerve to say "verified as complete" on the cast list. Who verifies it?! I can't imagine someone sits there checking credits in films all day.

I'm trying to get this sorted out; there's a couple of UK credits from the early '60s in the filmography for Dick Gregory (I) (the comedian), which seem unlikely, so I sent a correction asking that they be moved to one of the inexplicably empty pages for Dick Gregory (II) through (V). My guess is that, at some point, someone ignorantly merged the credits for the British actor into the comedian's page, and that someone else later deleted the credit for The Wrong Box after observing that it's clearly not him. Maybe the staff can figure out what credits got shifted in the past and figure out where they belong.

Dick Gregory belongs in the cast list following Graham Stark. He is the admiral beaned by the champagne bottle during the ship christening.
