Nick's last comment to George

Right before Nick finally leaves, he starts to say something along the lines of "I'd like to..." before being cut off by George's "Good Night!"

What was Nick trying to say? I assume that he was just going to mechanically say "I'd like to thank you again for the invitation..." as though it was a normal dinner party, but is it possible (given all that happened) that he would have said something more fitting?
