What an absolute scandal! When you think how much rubbish there is around these days, and great classics like this are not available on VHS or DVD and they don't even get shown much on TV. My family and I would love to see it again but can't.

I always check the late night movies in my TV & Satellite Guide and this jumped out at me! It's not the jolliest of films but it's a small masterpiece.

Not jolly at all, no, but theres enough jolly films around at Christmas. We're allowed one gritty one!! The acting is just so superb - and the very final scene - the last few words..... It sends shivers down my spine just thinking of it. :)

As with many old classic films,if you don't happen to catch them the once in a blue moon that they are actually shown ( usually late at night or early hours of the morning)then you miss your chance.I often wonder why they are put on at such alkward times, when there is so much rubbish on tv 24/7

you can vote to have this film released on dvd at the tcm movie database, it's only got about 60 votes so far but i recon we can bump that up. this film is astonishingly sad and also very important because old people still live in the same awful conditions they did back then, and sociaty still hasn't helped them.

shareAfter being out of print for some time, "The Whisperers" is available again in the MGM Vaults series, which is putting out DVD-R copies on demand, much as the Warner Archives series has done. It can be ordered at Amazon.com for $19.95, but I have seen it elsewhere as well. Unfortunately, the major mail rentals - Blockbuster, Netflix - don't seem to carry these special releases.
