Who's the other woman in bed? (Jean-Louis a pimp?)

Who's the woman in bed that Jean-Louis talks to while reading a motor racing magazine? Why does she ask him to undress? Is she a hooker?

Is Jean-Louis really a pimp or he tries to be funny in front of Anne?

reply

I thought that was his girlfriend at that time who wanted Jean-Louis to be more committed. That's why she asked him to see his little boy.

To me those pimpscene came out of Anne's imagination because Jean-Louis said he earns a lot of money.

The cast list says the other woman is his mistress. What's the relevance of this character?

reply

Her role is three-fold: (a) to show that Jean-Louis is a celebrity racer who easily attracts women, (b) that he's rich--a Louis XV desk would not come cheap, and (c) that it was "love at first sight" with Anne--strong enough that he immediately breaks off with his girlfriend

Yeah, that's the impression I got when she asked to see his son too. I gotta say though that the pimp scene was real class! Possibly one of the best parts of the movie.

I thought she was his girlfriend and it's pretty obvious that he isn't that into her once you realize she never met his son

I always thought the pimp scene was just a funny story Jean-Louis told Anne; you can see from her reaction that she doesn't take it seriously and plays along. Remember that he says Anne's story about Pierre was unoriginal, except for the stuntman detail. I think he was just trying to tell an opposite story to that.

This world is a comedy to those that think, a tragedy to those that feel.
