Rifle

Jean Labête uses a breech-loading rifle-surely an anachronism in the North-West wilderness, if the film is, as stated elsewhere, set in 1849, and his only chance of obtaining new goods of any kind is once a year on the lake steamer... Eve carries a muzzle-loading smooth-bore, which is much more likely... Does anybody have any idea what rifle Reed is using?.. I've looked on IMFDB, but there's no page yet for this film...
