88th street and 8th ave, nyc

Gromek, the first guide tells Newman that he liked the pizza shop of the corner on 88th street and 8th ave in Manhattan.
Only one problem. 8th avenue doesn't go past columbus circle. It becomes central park west.

You mean testing Armstrong--but why would Gromek need to test Amstrong about an address in NYC? Most Americans, true defectors or not, wouldn't know that 8th Ave stops at Columbus Circle. It isn't stated that Armstrong is from NYC.
So Gromek's reference to 88th and 8th Ave is strictly ...for the...bords.

Gromek didn't strike me as smart enough to think of testing Armstrong.

Yeah, I noticed that too.
When he said "88th Street", I said to myself: "88th & what?" lol
Later on, he says: "88th Street & 8th Avenue" & I said: "There is no '88th & 8th'!"
Oh, well.
