An excellent director, and this was one of his earliest films--a fine effort.

Amen to that. I have most of his films on DVD or seen in the cinema, this one I didn't know about and is hard to get. I like good writing, crafty design and production and a good feel within the actors ensemble. All of that is available in any Pollack movie. The man was a gem. He and the likes of Sidney Lumet, Ron Howard and Rob Reiner always produce better than mainstream quality movies that are always good to watch.

Those directors are excellent comparisons. Sydney Pollack brought out the best in his actors, and I have the feeling he was a joy to work with because the casts work so well together. He was also a superb actor in such films as "Husbands & Wives" and "Tootsie." What a loss his death is to all of us, but what a great body of work he left us!

He owed his career to Natalie's extreme generosity, as did his boyfriend, Robert Redford, but neither properly and publicly acknowledged that fact.
