What's Wrong With This Movie???

All I've heard for 50 years is "this movie is trash". Huh?!? Tennessee Williams was gonna take his name off?? He was a drunk anyway. Wouldn't know greatness. Started with "Gone With The Wind", then "Network", now this film; great hot stars (Wood/Redford) story, writing, costumes (Great Edith Head, designer) what more do you need?!? Natalie Wood blows me away! SO GOOD! I like it. I'm sorry. Sue me. Ha Ha John

It's one of those movies that has a bad reputation. I think this was supposed to be Natalie Wood's Blanch Dubois type role that would win her an Oscar, and it wasn't . I've seen this film many times through the years but on watching it this afternoon, it really showcases what a beautiful instinctive actress Wood could be.I think what really hurts the film is the score and the way it's used in various scenes. What worked musically in a 60s period film like the fun trashy kitch of "The Carpetbaggers" or "The Cincinnati Kid", fails in this film. If a less light Jazzy soundtrack had been used ,IMO , it would have improved the film.

Just because something can't be explained, doesn't mean it becomes yours!

You're right yort, terrible reputation. Wrote my earlier material before I finished film, did not care for ending. Not upbeat. I like a Happy Ending! ... Oh well, can't win Em all. Still think Natalie Wood is hot! What a Great Star! Tragic Life. Poor Natalie. Terrible the way she died. She and James Dean and Sal Mineo. John

YES. If there's one place you can count on a happy ending it's in early 30's depression era smalltown Gerogia.

I've always thought the same as you.
This is one of my all time favorite movies and ... Natalie ... something about her in this film is so magnetic.
I love Mary Badham in this, as well and Kate Reid did an excellent job at playing dear ol' Mama. She was almost too convincing, scary.

I am so happy there are people who love the South! I visited Memphis twice in the early 90's. I broadcast from Elvis' home Graceland on his Birthday. I was a DJ. I've live in San Francisco Bay Area 43 years! They loved me down that way! Thought I was a Good Ole Boy! Ha Ha (I'm originally from New Mexico) The last couple of years I've been in discussions with WSM, Nashville about going on the air. ... Sat Sept 3rd 2016 I will be 1st person Inducted into the new Airchexx.com National Radio DJ Hall of Fame, Beacon Falls, Connecticut. I'm very excited about that!
