Aroor Har!!!

Saw this movie with my family and my cousin's family when I was 12 in 1966. I don't know what made me laugh harder, the slapstick on the screen, or my uncle laughing so hard everytime Peter Graves said Aroor Har (sp?) he was doubled up with laughter almost falling out of his seat that I laughed so hard my face hurt for hours after. If this ever comes out on dvd, they should double it up with Sargeant's 3. Two of the funniest movies from the 60's and both with Dean Martin. They don't make comedies like this anymore and to me that's truly sad. I have pretty much given up on 'new'comedies because when someone tell's me something's funny and I go rent or buy and don't laugh once,...it makes me wonder what it was THEY thought was so funny. Everyone has their own tastes,...that's for sure, and heck I may not even think it's funny after 40+ years if I were to see it again,...but those memories of seeing it for the 1st time will be with me always. Aroor Har!

Aroor Har! is actually the only thing that I acn remember from this movie, but on the other hand, I'll probably never forget it. It became a standing joke among me and my friends, so the expression still lives. We use it as a substitute for "All right, let's go then!"

My family always used "Aroor har!" when we were ready to go anyplace~though occasionally we might vary it with "Head 'em up! Move 'em out!" Many decades have passed since we first saw it at the Heart Theater, and we lost first my father in the mid-Seventies then my sister just this past December. But, all the while, this remained one of our favorite movies of all time, and we frequently quoted from it. Now, Mom and I still do: "Mother run too fast!" "Ma! Ma!" and, of course, "Aroor har!" In fact, when we watch any movie with scenes of the cavalry, one or the other or both eventually will shout out, "Aroor har!" then giggle like mad.

For me, a wonderful Western marathon would be "Texas Across the River", "Cat Ballou", "Goin' South", and "The Frisco Kid". We could laugh for hours, with none of the jokes and funny moments having grown stale over the decades.

(BTW: Alain Delon is just too gorgeous!)(And, Dean isn't bad either!)

That does it. I'll have to dig out my old VHS.

I could add another Western spoof to my marathon: "Support Your Local Sheriff!" I just watched it again and had forgotten how hilarious it is! If you love "Texas Across the River", you might enjoy the similarly funny and good-natured "SYLS!"

All I have left to say is "Aroor Harr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Oh my God, you comment cracked me up, and I just realized it was 14 years ago. Are you are still alive Do you still like Texas Across the River! What did the Aroor Har!!! thing mean anyway?

I was 10 in 1966 ... I think I saw this in the theater.

I figured it meant "Rear, march" (or "To the rear, march"), which is a legitimate infantry command. I don't know if it makes sense for cavalry. The joke, aside from the pronunciation, is that he uses it in every situation.
