I didn't see the information in the Trvia section on this page, but I thought the producers or bigwigs behind the 1966 version attempted to secure the rights to or wished to destroy the negative and prints of the 1939 film to make sure this one was the version people remembered. Without the article to cite, this sounds crazy, but I was sure I read it!

I read it, too, but it never happened. Anaway, this version is far better than stupifying garbage Johnny Cash version that's shown incessantly on Encore.

Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible.
