Horse skewered?

During the fight with the Indians, at one point a spear is thrown and lands on a horse. I mean - it goes IN. Later, there's a dead horse among the human bodies.

I think that was a real dead horse, and I think it was killed by that spear.

This movie was filmed in the days before the Animal Cruelty laws were enacted.

Relax - it was just movie magic. And as for the Animal Cruelty laws they were very much in effect in 1965-66 when this movie came out and I assure you - filmmakers were not allowed to kill horses (or any other animal). Although horses have died accidently on film locations the deliberate spearing of a horse was never allowed.
