DVD from Twilight Time due 10/11/11

Twilight Time, the company which earlier this year began issuing unreleased classics from the 20th Century Fox vault, is releasing Stagecoach (1966), the eigth film in its series, on October 11, 2011.

Like all Twilight's DVDs, it'll be available exclusively through Screen Archives Entertainment (screenarchives.com). It is now available for pre-order at that site. Price is $19.95. The film is of course in its original aspect ratio, 2.35:1. There are no extras except for the isolated music score, but all TT DVDs come with an informative booklet about the film. Also, and again like all Twilight's releases, the DVD is limited to only 3000 units, after which it'll go out of print. No Blu-ray edition is planned at this time.

This title has been rumored for a while, but while I'm all in favor of releasing as much onto DVD as possible, it's disappointing that, with so many, far better and more classic titles still languishing in the Fox vaults, TT should have chosen this thoroughly unexceptional film for one of its earliest releases -- especially since the company only releases one film per month. At the risk of upsetting this movie's fans (whom I assume dominate this site), the 1966 Stagecoach is at best a routine film whose creators made the mistake of having attempted to update a genuine cinematic classic which it could not possibly have equaled, let alone bettered. It's okay, but there are scores of infinitely superior and more interesting films still locked away that should have had higher spots in Twilight Time's queue.

Anyway, for those of you who want it, enjoy. TT's releases have been excellent.

Thanks! I pre-ordered today. While this version will never replace the original, it is something of a violent guilty pleasure. I even like that tune at the end sung by Wayne Newton.

I would also like to see Twilight Time release Rio Conchos from 1964.

"The power lines are down, that explains why the lights went out."

Rio Conchos was released a couple of months ago by Shout! Factory, part of a double-feature disc that also includes Take a Hard Ride. Retail price is $14.95, but of course shop around for the best price. Enjoy!

Hey, Thanks again, Mate. I am on it.

No problem, TSMChicago. Glad I could be of help.

I like your The War of the Worlds quote too. Years ago, when I saw this in a theater full of my fellow collge kids, and Gene Barry uttered that line, he was met by a chorus of "Duhs!" and sarcastic applause!

I saw WOTW in college too. Man, we must be close to the same age. I liked it when Gene Barry scanned the landing site with the geiger-counter. Whenever the wand pointed towards Ann Robinson the counter went crazy, and some kid in the balcony yells out "It's her tits!" The place went crazy.

Hah! Same thing happened in my college! We probably are about the same age (let's just say, over 50). I first saw TWOTW on TV when I was 14. I noticed it was kind of odd/funny that the counter went nuts when he pointed it toward Ann. (And her looking back toward the meteor is reminiscent of the old joke of a line of people turning one by one to look at someone, and that person turning to look back to...no one.) But I admit that while I thought the counter bit was funny (and probably intentional), I did not specifically think the counter was pointing at her breasts -- simply recording that she was hot!
