It's like MASH with carpenters instead of doctors

It's hard to figure if this is pro-East-German-Socialist or anti-East-German-Socialist. The dialog has them skeptical that the Socialist state will last another ten years. The project planning is so awful that they have to blow up things after they are built! And the hammer slinging "outlaws" who really do want to work resort to raiding other construction sites for the material they need.

DEFA studios certainly was a curious place. Perhaps this movie is a metaphor for DEFA in that DEFA put out some films that they thought contained honest, constructive criticism and then the government orders the films to be "blown up!"
