For a directional debut, this was really good. Atmosphere was great, and the first few minutes showing the witch being murdered was incredibly well made. The only drawback was the occasional comical scenes with the policemen and the inn keeper, which was out of context with the tone of the film. Other than that, this was obviously the work of someone with talent.

I can't say this movie blew me away, but it was okay. Especially for a first time effort. It's a shame Michael Reeves died so young, at only 25. But his work that I've seen is very good so it will surely live on. He could've made so much more if he wasn't taken away so soon.
