See a Man About a Horse (spoiler)

There is a scene where Clint, Julie, and Jeff are in a restaurant. After ordering, Clint leaves when he realizes that the junk man's horse he saw was Smoky. The waitress returns, and asks where Parker's character had gone. Jeff replies "He went to see a man about a horse." I burst out in laughter when I heard this. I wonder if this phrase was a recognized euphemism then like it is now.
