The pregnant lady wanting an abortion

I wonder why her plot wasn't elaborated on more nor even played out.

She has this one scene in the movie with Sister Ann and that's it.

I always wondered if what Sister Ann told her effected her decision to keep the child.

Otherwise, why put the scene in the movie at all?

Since this is a film and not a novel we cannot explore and expand EVERY character in the film. Some things are best left to the audience to figure out or at least make them want to buy the book. 🎥📕

Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded. Yogi Berra

Somewhat surprisingly in 1966, I think the film's producers did not want to come out as super-judgmental against abortion.

Actually, for most of the 1960s, abortion kind of bubbled under the radar in terms of controversy for the Catholic Church. The Church was much more vocal and public against contraception, i.e., the pill.

For most of the 1960s the Catholic Church considered abortion about on the level of cannibalism -- so far beyond the pale they didn't need to discuss why they were against it.
